NITE is not only a market maker, but one of the largest. The reason all the letters are capitalized is the four make up the market makers symbol. By driving the price down to, a sharp market maker can buy cheap stock. This is especially true of small, thinly traded bulletin board stocks. Sometimes they do it for their own account and sometimes they are working for a large client.

The key is a company's long term prospects, since this kind of manipulation can only depress prices in the short term. As usual, there is always an exception. There are instances where companies have been utterly destroyed, because depressed stock prices effectively prevent them from raising capital through issuing securites.

What can I say. Penny stocks aren't for the weak at heart.
