Trading Halt

ASX MARKET RELEASE

The securities of New Tel Limited (the "Company") will be placed in
pre-open pending the release of an announcement by the Company.
Unless ASX decides otherwise, the securities will remain in pre-open
until the earlier of the commencement of normal trading on Thursday
16 November 2000 or when the announcement is released to the market.

TRADING HALT

New Tel Limited hereby confirms its request for a trading halt on the
Comhe
Company's securities under Listing Rule 17.1.

New Tel Limited requests the trading halt because:

1. New Tel Limited has finalised the documents in relation to its
China Internet project and proposed capital raising, and

2. New Tel Limited intends to announce the details of these documents
at a press conference in Sydney at 11.30 EST on Thursday 16 November
2000. The announcement will be provided to ASX prior to the press
conference.

New Tel Limited requests the trading halt continue for the period
permitted by the Listing Rules of the Stock Exchange or until the
Company announces on ASX the market announcement.

New Tel is not aware of any reason why the trading halt should not be
granted.
