My understanding is that it depends upon the law of the state of the person doing the recording. In some states it is illegal to record a conversation unless you first notify the others in the conversation.

If a poster lives in Canada and commits libel, the libelled person has 6 months to take the libellor to court. In Canada, the libellor must prove his/her statements true or be convicted.
