The Homs oil refinery is believed to produce a number of dual-use chemicals for the Syrian chemical weapons program, including isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, methanol, and ethylene. These are supplied to the chemical weapons production facility adjacent to the refinery. It also produces raw sulfur as a byproduct of oil refining for subsequent processing.
