>but I would suggest that doctors became doctors to treat people, not to fill out forms.<

I would agree that doctors don't go into training to fill out forms. I didn't go to school to fill out forms either, but it is a fact of life. Unlike most docs, I can't pay someone to fill them out for me wink

But i agree with your main point... the machinery that bogs down the healthcare system requires a major overhaul.

Funny anecdote about why people enter medical school:

One of my drills when interviewing medical school applicants (crappy task, by the way), was to ask them to hang themselves... in other words, why are they applying for medical school?

True to fashion, the unimaginative ones do the old "family member died and i want to tackle that disease / i want to help people" song and dance, to which I often reply "Would you be willing to commit to moving to a rural community to help people?"

Things get uncomfortable or hilarious at that point, depending on your viewpoint. Sad fact is that *if* we could read minds, we would see that the majority of these applicants want to become a doctor so that they can make bank. I would also venture that such an attitude describes 70-80% of the male applicants. Given the hardships that the female applicants will face on the training track (career / family pressures), I think the women who enter the profession are much more altruistic than the men.
