OT - That would probably do you no good any how because even if you know the resources are too low, you still need to re-boot to get them back up again. Although, you would know to save anything so I see your point.
Have you tried msconfig yet? If not, this has really helped for me. Go to run and type in msconfig - then go to the startup tab and get rid of anything that you don't need in there (which is probably a lot if you haven't done it recently). After you have unchecked the items you don't need you will see that you have more resources than before.
