AMD_Dude, server chips must meet a higher reliability standard than their desktop equivalents. They are put through a lot more testing, that is why they command a much higher premium. It was a surprising thing that AMD released Opteron first, but it does make sense when everything is considered. They were clocked lower than the target desktop speed, they were released in limited numbers and Linux was ready.
