IF(big ha)ever we could get to a point of *running out of oil* what would the price be? High prices will stifle consumption long before we run out. Like your tar sands, the US has oil shale comming out our ears. Both will sit untill prices using conventional oil production makes it worth extracting. Hydrogen fuel cells might come into play before that ever happens. Our problem is limited processing of crude oil to keep the prices high and has nothing to do with running out of oil.
