re: What is there in DDR2, which is not in DDR

Cor,

JEDEC published the DDR2 standard in September last year. Maybe you can access their site for a copy. Would love to see a side-by-side comparison of DDR2 to SDRAM, DDR, and RDRAM to see which it most resembles. Here's the announcement:

JEDEC PUBLISHES DDR2 STANDARD

Colorado Springs—At its meeting here, JEDEC JC-42 Committee announced its publication of the new JESD-79-2 standard for Double Data Rate Two (DDR2) SDRAM memory data sheet. This standard is a follow-on to JEDEC standard JESD-79 that was originally published in June 2000. DDR2 devices operate at twice the speed of DDR SDRAM devices that expect to be used in computers starting in 2004.

This comprehensive standard defines all required aspects of 256Mb through 4Gb DDR2 SDRAMs with x4/x8/x16 data interfaces, including pinout, addressing, functional description, features, ac and dc parametrics, truth tables, and packages. Standard JESD-79-2 uses a SSTL_18 interface, which is described in another JEDEC standard called JESD-8-15.

The purpose of this Standard is to define the minimum set of requirements for compliant devices 256Mb through 4Gb, x4/x8/x16 DDR2 SDRAMs. System designs based on the
required aspects of this specification will be supported by all DDR2 SDRAM vendors providing compliant devices.

JC-42 Chairman, Desi Rhoden, said, “ I am pleased that the Committee has succeeded in developing this new SDRAM standard which represents the consensus of over 100 companies and 350 representatives. JEDEC looks forward to continuing its development of successful SDRAM standards that the industry uses for supplying their future computing needs.”

JEDEC is the leading developer of standards for the solid state industry. Almost 1800 representatives, appointed by some 275 JEDEC member companies work together in 50
JEDEC Committees to meet the needs of every segment of the industry, manufacturers and users alike. The publications and standards that they generate are accepted throughout the
world. JEDEC is a founding sector of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA). JEDEC standards are available online, at no charge. To access these standards or to obtain
further information, visit the JEDEC web site, at www.jedec.org.

SDRAM my ass. It's my fervent wish the badger eats the weasel in the end.

Just my opinion.
