RDF gives way to facts ...

PC vs. Mac for the professional photographer ...

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/index.asp

For those not familiar with Rob Galbraith, his site is "the" place for professional photographers in search of information on digital photography (equipment reviews are found at dpreview.com) vis a vis the workstation computer.

Galbraith personally favors Macs, but is regarded as scrupulously honest in his evaluations. There was quite a stir when his first comparisons of the G5s came out and showed them trailing PCs badly. Much flapping ensued about how Panther and app optimization would change that.

Panther and optimized P-shop are out now, and Galbraith has gone back in for the most thorough, real world comparison I've seen yet. Unfortunately, the tests put the lie to the notion of the G5 as the fastest processor on the planet. For certain limited and specialized operations that is true. But not for Photoshop and the sorts of things professional photographers do. In that regard, the Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 is a serious laggard.

I doubt Apple would respond, but if it did, it would be interesting to see what it had to say.
