This is where your ignorance really shows. micro curie dose of iodine 131 is used for DIAGNOSTIC purposes. Mili curie dose is used for THERAPY (treating cancer of the thyroid. All the radiation protection is used for the workers because they are exposed everyday while a patient is exposed once (hopefully) in their lifetime. That is why I wear a lead apron and the patient does not.
