Taseko Mines (TGB, Weekly Chart, Daily Chart) is a Vancouver based junior copper/gold producer that hit multi-year highs this week. This could be a very sweet play mid to long term if copper prices continue to move higher, which I see as almost a given unless the world economy collapses for some reason.

Although Taseko's Gibraltar mine is already a 36,700-ton-per-day operation with a 21-year life, it's the company's Prosperity deposit that has our CAPS contestants so bullish. Prosperity is regarded as the largest untapped gold-copper deposit in Canada, having proven and probable reserves of 480 million tons. With global commodity consumption as voracious as ever, Prosperity (if it is, in fact, viable), should only benefit from higher gold and copper prices going forward.

Taseko Mines Limited ("Taseko" or the "Company") (Toronto:TKO.TO - News)(AMEX:TGB - News) announces that the Company has commenced a Cdn$40 million Phase II expansion to the Gibraltar Mine to further increase milling capacity that complements the Phase I expansion now underway.

Data being generated from ongoing drilling indicates to Taseko management that significant mineral resources will be upgraded to reserves in the near future. As a result, Gibraltar has begun detailed engineering to add capacity to the Phase I expansion ultimately increasing the Gibraltar concentrator throughput to 55,000 tons per day ("tpd") when complete.
