The only scenario that makes sense to me is a deal in which a drug candidate in trouble or a dead drug is turned over to DNAP and the controlling company gives a portion of the downstream revenues. The drugs themselves would probably cost very little or nothing to DNAP.

I don't see how DNAP could acquire a set of drugs (or even one drug) that already has a future. Way to expensive. This is all about turning nothing into something, IMO.
