Cornice: It was difficult to find the Cornice ''booth.'' What they had was a small meeting room with a very small reception area. They had a locked case with the players that had been launched before the CES. I talked with a Christine Hinton, Vice President of Marketing, Vantage Point Venture Partners, located in San Bruno, CA. She was helping man the booth. I explained that I was looking for the new products that had been launched at the show. One of the Colorado employees over heard us, and brought out a brand new music player by Taiwanese GemSOC to show me. Christine unlocked the glass case and showed me the current players.
iRiver, Samsung, and Lyra (Sp. ?) and the MPIO HS100 were on display. When I told her I really wanted to see a working model of the newest technologies she {I have to go get me dog NOW! ----------------------------------------------------------------
Tasha's glad to get home--she's been in the dog kennel all week.
Christine told me that NDRs would not allow her to tell me anything that had not already been publicly released. I kind of kept after the subject of not just MP3 players, but the new tech that included movies. Her eyes kind of lit up when I said that. Then she said that they (I took it to mean the Cornice people) had watched two movies using the MPIO player the night before. She acted like she was really impressed with the DigitalWay handheld. Since I'm not familiar with the exact numbers on the MPIO, I don't know if this is an old or a brand new player' nor do I know if it was EDIG tech. Do all MPIO players have EDIG inside? We exchanged business cards; she expressed surprise that an investor would show up at the booth. I told her that I used to work for a Venture Capital company and that I was following eDigital's progress. I don't think she knew very much about eDigital, but she worked on the last round of financing for Cornice last April.
Walter Pfeffer joined us for dinner, he's our EDIG tech guy. He told us he couldn't tell us anything that wasn't already disclosed, but he did share some interesting things I didn't know. My discussion of his remarks may seem rather random, but that's kind of how they came out. He really likes the DigEplayer. He knows other airlines are ready to jump on this product. 2)We are not in the new Ipod-like HP Player. He personally likes the iPod, but he thinks our GateWay player is good. The question I raised to him and to the board is, why would we want to be in the Apple product when MSFT/IMB type PCs represent a much much bigger market? He also said that when the GateWay player was almost finished and he was in charge of making sure it worked, he would do tests, then over night the same test would be continued in India. He had lots of good things to say about his boss, Atul. Lots of the employees have stock and they all are working like Beavers (good Oregon term)to get the PPS up! 3) Eclipse: Walter was very uninterested in talking about it. I don't know if he couldn't, wouldn't, and/or shouldn't. Most of his ideas and remarks were on target, but others weren't. I came away with feeling that Walter could only go so far in a discussion and then feigned ''I don't know about that--not my department.'' He was very chatty and certainly knew a lot about football! Our dinner ended early--we were all exhausted.
