Jesup & Lamont, a vintage Wall Street firm that has retained its original name and business principles for more than 125 years, is a noteworthy exception.
Our Founding
The firm’s distinguished history began at the dawn of the industrial revolution. When James Jesup and Lansing Lamont -- two highly- regarded New York financiers – formed their partnership in 1877, oil and railroads represented the country’s economic future, and capital was the engine to drive the dream forward. Powerful visionaries like John D. Rockefeller turned to Jesup & Lamont to raise capital and provide brokerage services for Standard Oil and several related companies that were developing infrastructure for the new age. The towering Rockefeller Center complex, constructed with funds partially underwritten by Jesup & Lamont, stands as a symbol of the promise and achievement of the era.
Institutional Focus
In the post-World War II period, Jesup & Lamont served on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for firms such as Morgan, Stanley & Co., Lazard Freres and Brown Brothers Harriman. In this environment of growth and prosperity, Jesup & Lamont established a strong reputation in institutional trading and research, which has since provided a solid foundation for our firm’s services and business activities.

Today Jesup & Lamont serves both institutional and high-net-worth retail clients. The firm’s brokerage expertise has been successfully extended to include the retail sector, and we have aggressively broadened our investment banking capabilities, to offer a full range of corporate finance capital raising, advisory, and valuation services.
Over the decades, we have added services selectively, with an eye not simply to our own growth but, more importantly, to the needs of our clients. And throughout a century and a quarter, we have remained true to our founding concept: facilitating the raising and accumulation of capital to enable clients to transform their business goals into reality.
