Petz, Re: AMD could, in a nanosecond, remark the same chip to be a 1.6 GHz 34W TDP, 1.2 volt 64-bit part.

I mentioned this possibility in my post. It looks like you didn't make it past the first sentence, however. Being so set in your religious beliefs doesn't motivate me to continue this dialogue with you. It might be more mature for you to acknowledge my other points just to show that you read them.

To address your one point, however:

Re: Nonsense, it might be reasonable to design 14" and larger notebooks to have the 2 GHz speed available under AC power only, but if the power supply is designed to supply 1.2v maximum, the notebook can be designed for 34W TDP.

First, the term nonsense is demeaning to what I said, especially in light of your post making little sense itself.

If you limit the voltage for the CPU, it will fail. It is not intelligent enough to stay out of the higher voltage modes, just because you limit the voltage.

Furthermore, the operation in and out of AC power is detailed in the specifications, and a 2.0GHz CPU will operate at 2.0GHz some of the time, which demands a thermal design point of >60W. The laptop must be designed around that limit, or else the system will fail due to thermal issues. That's why CPU vendors give out power dissipation numbers.

Now it would be nice if your response could give me a reason not to put you on ignore.
