On the grounds that you are a more experienced investor/trader than I, I have little to comment, but I will say this: if an uptrend is expected to resume, then selling and buying back may not be wise if you are not able to buy back cheap enough to make the loss that ones gives up, by taking advantage of capital gains tax...but of course, you already know that.

Also, hindsight is 20/20.
