thanks for the advice. I think there is a lot of pooled knowledge here on the board, which can be very useful.

Speaking of the conversion, there is quite a detailed interview on what AMD are doing in terms of innovating in their manufacturing. It appears that they are trying to be less reliante on batch runs, and introduce more technology (mainly software) which allows flexiable manufacturing methods. This fits in with product differentiation. It is better to manufacture a product that you can sell for $400 then manufacture at an extreamly low cost(good yield) a product you can sell for $70, if you are constrained by capital.


If they do achieve this approach successfully, manufacturing might become thier "thing". A core competence, giving them an advantage over other FABs.

A lot of what is being discussed here on this board is manufacturing.


But your point on tacticle vs. strategic is tacken.
