I know it's hard to read. That chart represents upper level winds. I use the 300mb (millibar) chart to emphasize the upper level winds. That is the main cause of shearing. The wind barbs show the westerlies (winds moving west to east). That blue area is the jet stream. Every year around jun1 the jet stream starts it's migration north and that kicks off hurricane season. I'm only emphasizing this because the jet stream won't be a factor this year. Now I'm seeing easterlies starting to show up around central america. Easterlies present favorable upper level winds for hurricanes because they move in the same direction as hurricanes.
