Peddling flesh for a cause

VANCOUVER (Sun Media) - Are you tired of oppressive oil regimes? Are your feeling weighed down by drab cotton Dockers? Do you like to ride bikes?

If you answered, "Yes!" to any two of the above questions, tomorrow's World Naked Bike Ride is this summer's Vancouver event for you.

Spunky organizer Ren Levy, sporting a neat purple hair-do, describes the event as an eye-catching reminder for people to claim liberation from oil dependency.

"It's a fun way and exciting way to protest," she said. "And, it's a collective so no one will be alone."

The afternoon critical mass bike ride, part of growing movement that spans 20 countries, should draw hundreds of cyclists exhibiting various degrees of modesty from all walks of life.

And as strangers who may feel nervous over revealing their private parts plan to mix with cyclists who love nothing more than sunshine kissing their flesh, Levy reminds a group of gawking reporters the seriousness of global oil dependence outweighs the stunt itself.

"It's a message with a purpose and we're very passionate about it," said the nudist.

She even offers a set of inspiring words for bashful newbies in advance of the 11 a.m. meet-up for body painting at Sunset Beach.

"Wear shoes and if you don't feel comfortable riding completely naked that's alright too," she said wearing a smile. "Your participation, excitement and support is excellent."
