The Flip Neck Booklight LIVES!!!

Just got back from one of Atlanta's largest Barnes & Noble stores. I went there to get a book, not a booklight, but figured, what the heck, might as well scope out the hoopla while I was there.

Had to go to the service desk to ask where they hid the things (this is a big store) and was led over to a far corner where the non-book gadgetry was displayed. Sho-nuff, there was shelving with approximately 24 different makes, styles and prices of booklights, six of which were Capstone models. The "Flip Neck" was on the shelf with all of the others, no special signage, placement or promotion attached.

When I inquired about sales and popularity of the various brands, the clerk sort of ducked the question by stating "Well if you get one home and it doesn't work or you can't read with it, just return it". This was not specific to the Capstone products, but rather a general comment made in such a way that led me to believe they get a lot of returns on booklights. My personal experience with a drawerful of other booklights has been that they tend to "hotspot" the center of a page but leave the edges annoyingly under illuminated so they've been relegated to emergency flashlight status.

HOWEVER, at both the Service/Information Desk and at one of the checkout stations there was a display box of the "Flip Necks", and no other, booklights. The displays were well suited to impulse buys of this inexpensive little light. Again, no advertising or placards, just a nice placement. Based on this, you could probably say they were "featured" at this store.
