Orygun: Keep in mind that Falk presented a very wide variety of "targeted markets" for the 4 e.Digital "platforms." There was nothing that supported the idea that any of these "target markets" are interested or even viable.

IMO, the personal video platform has virtually zero chance of ever being adopted by the medical field. There are already advanced hand-held PDA and tablet technologies that have been in use for years and are in further development in conjunction with electronic medical records (EMRs). Hand-held video is not part of the equation as it is not needed or appropriate.

Additionally, I found Falk's suggestion that the Academy Awards might want to buy PVP players to send out screener films to be absurd. First of all, the "Academy" does not send out any films, each studio does. They have been sending out Academy "screeners" on videocassettes and DVDs for many years. Each studio is in competition with the other (including independent productions).

Second, Academy voters are not going to want to watch potential nominee movies on a 7 or 9" screen, nor will the studios want voters to view in such a small format. Both studios and votes will want them to be played on the best screen size available to each voter.

In summation, I don't think Fred Falk's speculative "target markets" had any grounding in reality. Only time will tell (as usual given all of the past promises).
