"MEXICO CITY, May 25 (Reuters) - The owner of one of Mexico's fledgling discount airlines wants to buy the country's No. 1 but struggling Aeromexico carrier, a national daily reported on Friday.

Avolar controlling shareholder Jorge Nehme said he and a group of investors plan to make a formal offer for the assets of holding company Consorcio Aeromexico (AMEXICOA.MX: Quote, Profile, Research, including Aeromexico, within weeks, Reforma newspaper reported.

Neither Avolar nor Aeromexico could be reached for comment."
