Originally, I thought it would be a 65nm shrink of montecito.

MDR briefly reported that a very long time ago. Montvale
has designated a tweaked Montecito for roughly three
years now.

BTW, I heard a rumor they are WAY over their power budget on that product.

Is this a recent rumour? If not then you probably heard a
reverberation from the great Tukwila war between former
HP and ADT factions within Intel. Given the bitterness of
that conflict I wouldn't be surprised if there are still folks
from the losing side happy to spread and exaggerate
rumours.

Even the target TDP for Tukwila is a contentious issue.
About 2.5 years ago Intel positioned IPF to directly take
on the IBM Power series socket for socket. IBM is not
shy about approaching 200W per device so the thinking
was IPF would have to exceed its historic 130W power
envelope to do so. I have heard details about discussions
Intel held with IPF OEMs in the aftermath of the Montecito
fiasco. Some OEMs wanted Tukwila to stay in the 130W
or even within the 100W TDP target for Montecito. Other
OEMs wanted a "hot" SKUs to take on IBM and the TDP
for that/those was 165W. In the 18 months since then the
faction wanting the hottest Tukwila SKU to be under 130W
have probably been strengthened by the trends in the x86
world. OTOH among IPF OEMs there is one that is by far
more equal than all others if you know what I mean. wink
