OT: HILTON HOTELS SIGNS DEAL TO OPERATE L.A. COUNTY JAILS
Hollywood — In a groundbreaking deal, the Hilton Hotel chain has signed a deal to take over operations of the Los Angeles County Jail system for 45 days. While governments typically pay companies to privately operate prisons, Hilton Hotels is actually paying Los Angeles $8.7 million for the contract.
The deal comes just after Paris Hilton was sentenced to spend 45 days in a Los Angeles County prison.
“Really?” said Hilton Hotels co-chairman William Barron Hilton when asked about the coincindence. “I had no idea. What are the odds?”
Hilton announced immediate plans to renovate the L.A. County Women’s Prison. Instead of 1,480 uniform size jail cells, the hotel company will build an “ultra-luxury” wing designed to hold one inmate, along with a pet. The other 2,959 women will live in the remaining one-third of the facility in four feet long by four feet wide by four feet high rooms.
“The current trend in real estate can be summed up in three words: ‘luxury, luxury and luxury,’” said Hilton Hotels CEO Stephen Bollenbach. “Just as we’re building more VIP suites in all our hotels, we thought it was equally important to install a premium experience for the top guests at the L.A. County Women’s Prison.”
The L.A. County Women’s Prison’s “princess suite” will feature 14 rooms, all painted pink, with hand-crafted furniture, 12 plasma screen televisions, a 20 feet wide Jacuzzi, and a balcony overlooking a private garden. It will fit one guest and her dog, along with nightly parties of up to 148 guests (other prisoners are not allowed to enter the facility as party guests).
12 specially trained prison guards will serve as maids, chefs, dog walkers, and masseuses for the “princess suite” guests.
In addition, there is room for the crew of any reality television show or celebrity newsmagazine to live in the “princess suite” and film a guest at her publicist’s discretion.
The “princess suite” will cost $150,000 per night.
“The county used to run the entire prison without charging anybody, but we’re turning it into a profit center,” said Bollenbach. “In fact, we already have one guest who has pre-booked the room for our entire 45-day management term. I’m not allowed to reveal her name, but let’s just say that in addition to significant revenue, we’ll be bringing the Los Angeles County prison system a whole new level of popularity amongst America’s teenage girls.”
