Correction for the I-box:

I think the word for noon is "meridian," not "meridiem."

"Meridiem" is the accusative form that goes with prepositions like "ante" and "post."

Thus:

--- noon is meridian

--- a.m. stands for ante meridiem

--- p.m. stands for post meridiem
