The Ever Changing Michael Rood



Michael Rood's teachings contain anti-Christian, and definitely anti-Christ rhetoric, rejection of the Greek New Testament while promoting the so-called "original" Hebrew New Testament, and more. Some are buying into his rhetoric and believing him to be a "Torah Observant" Messianic or Karaite or Jewish Messianic (he was not born Jewish), a "Levite" (he's not of the levitical priesthood), a former Baptist minister (specifically in Duluth--he was not), "a bearded Israeli" (born a Gentile in Michigan), a rabbi, or Rabbi, or whatever else he claims to be for whatever audience he is targeting.

In the 1996 version of The Mystery of Iniquity, he stated, "By grace, we Gentiles will share in the same victory..." [Chapter Five, Dispensationalism and the Secret Pre-tribulation Rapture: Return to Sender] How very odd, in that in latter versions of the book, even posted on the internet, that phrase that identifies Michael Rood as a "Gentile" has been altered to read, "By grace, Gentiles will share in the same victory. "

From his tape 4 of The 70th Week Ministry of the Messiah, released in 1999, Michael Rood stated, "...we are not, as Gentiles in the west to give heed ..."

Michael Rood is currently promoting himself as a "Messianic teacher" for the 2005 Summer The Creator's Calendar and the Restoration of All Things and Raiders of the Lost Book: New Discoveries in the Hebrew Texts of Matthew. However, for the January 2005 Raiders of the Lost Book tour and with the release of his latest book, he was being promoted as a Jewish theologian, which is, of course, false. By his own published and often contradictory words, Michael Rood was born a Gentile, and is not Jewish unless he converted to Judaism in some form. This would mean proclaiming his rejection of the New Testament and Jesus Christ as Messiah.

In the past, during his Prophecy Club tours, he and his videos were marketed with the phrasing, for example: "Intelligence Briefing - 10/7/00 ..."Michael Rood: War In Israel Michael John Rood is the most popular speaker of the year! Michael, a Messianic Jewish Rabbi, ..." and, "Intelligence Briefing - 1/20/01 "Michael Rood: How Hanukkah portrays the Rise and Fall of the Antichrist! Michael Rood, a Messianic Jewish Rabbi, continues to explain how prophecy is being fulfilled with the Jewish Feasts...."

Michael Rood claims the Biblical Feasts or Feast of the Lord as commanded by God are key to understanding the Biblical timeline. However, Hanukkah is not a God ordained feast but a man made celebration focusing on the Maccabbees and the Jews as a people. He also has a lengthy teaching on Purim, which also was not ordained by God, but as is recorded in the the book of Esther in the Scriptures. It again was focused on the Jewish people and states clearly concerning the remembrance of Purim, in 9:26-32, "The Jews ordained, and took upon them," and "as they had decreed for themselves...".

As noted in the Raiders of the Lost Book Equals Raiders of Nothing of Value Michael Rood of A Rood Awakening and Nehemia Gordon, US Speaking Tour January 2005 article, Michael Rood's publisher, Bridge-Logos, known to publish Christian authors of all denominations, is also promoting Michael Rood as a "Jewish Christian scholar and theologian" in their promotion of his "The Pagan Christian Connection Exposed." The Christian satellite system, Sky Angel, promoted Rood as a "Christian teacher", which was changed to "messianic teacher" after the posting of the above article. Michael Rood has referred to all things Christian as pagan, and would most likely reject calling himself a Christian. However, in his targeting of the extremely lucrative Christian audience, he has attempted to tone down the anti-Christ rhetoric, although one merely needs to read or listen to his various tapes and teachings to see he has not changed his spots when speaking of Christians. Such as The Pagan Christian Connection Exposed:

"... The modern Christian shows up one hour per week at the religious welfare administration building for milk and crackers. They have all the tools they really need in life: a couch, a TV remote control, and a comfortable pew once a week." (page 31)

From a press release issued by Eric Fransen, Michael Rood's son-in-law, from the PR web in December 2004, promoting the upcoming Raiders of the Lost Book January 2005 Tour:

"This message is not simply relevant: it is vital to America’s understanding of itself, the Middle East, and the times and seasons we ALL find ourselves living in. It is essential to every Christian's faith, life, and identity as a follower of "Christ"..." [www.prweb.com/news/20041223/prweb191067_1]

That is in sharp contrast to this 2001 statement:

"When we get together again, it will be a different format. If at all possible, we will set up in an ancient synagogue style forum – as an interactive assembly, rather then the “performance theater” that has become so common among modern Gentile Christianity" [6001.com/news_sp08.htm December 2001 Urgent: Help Needed in Israel]

In tape 3 of The 70th Week Ministry of the Messiah audio series from 1999, Michael Rood stated:

"So again, you gotta look at the culture you got to understand in the light of the Torah and of the Nevi'im and if you understand the history then other things will fit into place. But if you don't understand the history then you've got the star of Bethlehem being some kind of Tinkerbell that floats over town and you know nothing makes sense. It turns into kind of a ludicrous fairytale through the mind of western gentiles, who are completely divorced from their roots."

The Apostle Paul in Colossians 2 states otherwise:

6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

Speaking as a Christian, Michael Rood has no concept about what someone who loves the Lord Jesus Christ does or believes, or how their time is spent. But the disparaging remarks above may have been how Michael Rood has lived his religious life, but it is not indicative of those who are focused on serving Jesus Christ. This writer is not a 'church' apologist. I am however quite aware of the errors, deceptions, false teachers, false prophets, false or heretical doctrines that have permeated many churches and that have become labeled as "Christian." This website discusses many of those issues. My focus is however, on the person of Jesus Christ and obedience to the Word of God. And I will stand in defense of those issues, including the calling myself a Christian, meaning a follower of Jesus Christ, terms which Michael Rood over the years has disparaged.

Jude1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Phil 3:18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

It is noteworthy, that in Michael Rood's latest teaching about the Shem Tov Matthew currently being aired on Sky Angel, that at the end of his presentation he now issues a disclaimer statement that he is not a Levite, while attempting to speak Hebrew in order to give a blessing based on a commandment given to the Levite priests.

"In closing, I would like to speak the prayer that the Kohanim, the priests of Israel, were commanded to speak over the children of Israel. And this is how the Almighty instructed the Kohanim, the priests of Israel to put the Name of The Almighty upon His people. And when I speak the prayer over you, I am not doing it under the authority of the levitical priesthood, or the family of Kohen. I bear no claim to that lineage..." The blessing was from Numbers 6:24-26, and then Michael Rood added his own ending, which is not in the original Scripture passage. The above disclaimer statement about not being of the levitical priesthood or having their authority, is in stark contrast to these earlier statements made by him. Citing from Michael Rood's "Event Comments", which is part of the promotion for the 2005 tours, we note this comment:

"Kevin Herbik, a print writer in Florida wrote this for his Paper:
Michael Rood is a Messianic Jew who has devoted his life to teaching about the fulfilled prophecies of the Messiah from a Jewish perspective. He lives like a Levite, owning no property and having no inheritance (Numbers 18:23), surviving only on the tapes and videos he sells during his presentations, which he believes is as things should be (Deuteronomy 26:12). He has literally devoted his entire life to his mission. ..." http://www.michaelrood.com/comments.htm

The actual original quote that corresponds to the above, was actually posted to Michael Rood's 6001.com website in 2001. However, it was slightly different. Here is an excerpt from that 2001 article which was being used as a promotion for Michael Rood's seminars and tours at that time:

Kevin Hrebik, a print writer in Florida wrote this for his Paper: Michael Rood is a Messianic Jew who has devoted his life to teaching about the fulfilled prophecies of the Messiah from a Jewish perspective. He claims to be a true Levite, owning no property...his latest presentation was Thursday and Friday, May 10 and 11, at the Holiday Inn in Plantation. ..." [originally found in 2001 at www.6001.com/seminar.htm]

That original article although slightly longer, was hot linked to the original web newspaper article. That original online Christian newspaper article, written by Kevin Hrebik, not Kevin Hebrik as is currently on Rood's website, which was the partially quoted article on Rood's 6001.com website, in sharp contrast to the above 2005, "He lives like a Levite", rather, had the clear statement, "He claims to be a true Levite, ..." [originally found at www.6001.com/seminar.htm; and also matching the original article www.goodnewsfl.org/Issues/0601/MichaelRood.htm]



That article written by Kevin Hrebik, entitled, Michael Rood brings Messianic message to South Florida, was posted in 2001/2002, and was removed from the website for The Good News in South Florida--South Florida's Christian Newspaper, based in Ft Lauderdale, Florida in 2002. Kevin Hrebik no longer works at that paper. The original Kevin Hrebik article had the following statement at the bottom of it, "material may not be used without permission", and this writer spoke with the newspaper publisher, Grif Blackstone, who knew nothing of the current altering of the article, the name 'misspelling' nor the use of that article as promotion and posted on Michael Rood's current 2005 website. He did not give permission to alter or use the article. I hope to hear from Kevin Hrebik on the matter, via Mr. Blackstone.



Misspelling the name of Kevin Herbik, which should be Kevin Hrebik, and altering the article, does not change the fact that the 2001 Kevin Hrebik article was not in any way about the 2005 Tour as is currently implied. Yet, Michael Rood is still using the long removed article now more than three years later as an endorsement in an altered form. There can be no doubt that Michael Rood has stated that he is Torah observant and a true Levite, as there was no correction whatsoever to that statement on his prior 6001.com website, although the presentation of that write-up was quite clearly a promotion for his tours and seminars.



It should also be noted that the date of the 2001 tour was May 10 & 11 held at the Holiday Inn in Plantation, Fl. The January 2005 Tour, was held Saturday, January 22, 2005 in Ft Lauderdale/ Plantation, also at the Holiday Inn.

How does the altering of the article written by Kevin Hrebik, and currently posting it to michaelrood.com as part of the 2005 Summer Tour promotion, certainly without the publisher's knowledge or permission align with Scriptures?...how is that being 'Torah Observant?



As an aside, it is noteworthy that the original promotion of the Hrebik article posted on Michael Rood's 6001.com website was directly above his 2001 promotion for the Restoration of the Tabernacle of David Conference. That 2001 conference speaker line-up, incidentally, included "Rabbi" Ralph Messer, Monte Judah, John Bevere, Michael John Rood, and Eddie Chumney.



In a plea for money in 2003, Jamie Louis sent out a note stating,

"...Michael lives to teach and lives his life as if he were a Levite. That is why I am writing you. Michael has an opportunity to reach millions and we need your help to do it. We need 300 committed $1000 pledges, or your tithe to one serving as a Levite...He lives as a Levite.. " [2003, An open Letter from the "Ya'akov Levi Foundation: www.michaelrood.com/news_sp07.htm]

Michael Rood claims to live like a Levite, but that is a Biblical impossibility. The Levites were ordained by Almighty God to, amongst other things, give sacrifice and atone for sins, until that role was prophetically and completely fulfilled in Christ, our High Priest. Prior to that, No person could imitate or claim that Levite role or live like them, and infractions to God's commandments concerning their rituals and practices, often met with death. Michael Rood and others similar to him making the claim to live like a Levite, are counting on the reader or listener not knowing or understanding the Word of God.



In claiming to "live a True Levite lifestyle" he claims to own nothing, "He lives as a Levite. He does not own a car or even rent an apartment". I don't remember the Levites "owning" laptop computers, and doing powerpoint presentation lectures, much less having a "production team" and an entourage. Nor do I recall Levites traveling worldwide at the expense of others.



Jamie Louis and other rood crew posted a plea in December 2001, on Michael Rood's 6001.com, and stated:

"The Messiah ridiculed the current occupation of religious leaders when He made a mockery of their tearing down their "current barns" to build "bigger barns". By example He followed the teaching of the Torah to use our tithe to take care of the poor, widows, orphans and the Levites who have no inheritance in the land. For years, Michael and his staff have traveled the country on the ragged edge of survival in order to get the good news of the Messiah out to thousands of people whose lives have been dramatically changed. Now we need your help to get to millions more. Everyone who can help us with this project with a gift of $100 or more a month from your tithe, will help us film this series in the land of Israel and then translate it into several languages to go all over the world...

We have an extremely frugal budget (according to industry standards) of $300,000 for the project this year. That is $12,000 per episode. Michael is hoping that some of his supporters will be able to underwrite entire episodes and he is requesting your help now.

Quoting from the article, Brad Scott-Part 4 : Torah Observant Gentile & Under the Law, which discusses the issues of being able to be Torah Observant and under the Law, and the concept of Tithing to these self-proclaimed 'teachers' because they have declared themselves the new priesthood of 'Torah' teachers, it was noted that Michael Rood donned 'priesthood garments.'

Michael Rood claims to be living as a Torah Observant Levite, although he is not Jewish, nor of the Levitical lineage. In the article, Michael Rood: WAY Colleagues, Occult Calendars & False Prophecies, it was shown that Michael also believes he can act as a Levite Priest.

Norman Willis, while in Israel in October 2001, related that Michael Rood and his associate Joshua Cohen, bribed a gatekeeper, to enter a sacred site with him. According to Mr. Willis, they donned Levitical Priest garments and engaged in a ceremony. Willis wrote:

"...I knew that I could probably go there if I were to take off my kippa and tassels (techelet), but I had resolved not to change my appearance for the sake of men. Therefore it occurred to me that I would not be able to go to the Pool of Shiloam on this visit.

... the Last Great Day of the Feast (karaite reckoning), I was coming out of the architectural dig to the south of the Western Wall plaza, .... up walked Michael Rood and ... Joshua. Michael asked me what I was doing, and I told him that I had been instructed to wait for orders. He said, "How are these for orders: Come with us to the Pool of Shiloam."

Michael had me remove my kippa and tassels ... and we proceeded to the Pool. We had to pay the Palestinian gatekeeper to unlock the gate, and then we all bathed (mikvah'ed) in the Pool, whereupon Michael and Joshua donned the priesthood garments, and performed a ritual ceremony ...."

Question: How Torah Observant is it to bribe someone in order to trespass into a restricted area, and what scripture passage in the Torah justifies willfully breaking the law?

Michael Rood, Norman Willis, James Trimm and many others are teaching that tithing needs to be directed to them, as God's priesthood or Torah teachers, no different than to the Levites, who they either claim to be, claim to replace or claim to live like.

Michael Rood often uses the example of 'remember the Levite' when asking for money. For example in one Bulletin, he stated:

"...Jamie and the other men took our (and your) tithes over to Israel...Levite, Bruce Brill, asked me to express his appreciation for your help. I hope that we can do more for them. As the Torah commands concerning the tithe: "remember the Levite" and that is what we do with what is shared with us. In one teaching specifically, in which he uses Yahshua instead of Jesus throughout the series, Michael Rood equated tithing to be for a party, and tithes to always go to Jerusalem, and to remember the Levite:

"Because Deuteronomy 18 specifically says

"This is the reason for your tithe."

This is what a tithe is. AS a matter of fact I think you should go there because not to many people teach what tithing is all about.

Deuteronomy. Thou shalt surely tenth, the word tithe is tenth , all the increase of thy seed that thy field bring forth year by year and thou shalt eat before Yahweh thy God the place which he shall choose to place his name there which is what? where did he choose to place his name Yeruwshalaim. That's right. And you shall eat before Yahweh thy God in the place which he shall choose to place his name there the tenth of thy corn thy wine and thy oil and firstlings of thy herds and thy flocks that thou mayest learn to fear, respect Yahweh thy God always. And if the way is too far for thee, and you're not able to carry it all that way or if the place be to far which Yahweh thy God shall choose to set his name there when Yahweh thine God has blessed thee then shall thou turn it, turn the tithe, that tenth of all this increase into money. You bind it up in your hand and shall go into the place which Yahweh thy God shall choose and thou shalt bestow that money on whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.

Whatever you desire when you go up to the feast, it's a party. I want you to go up and have a great time. I want you to save a tenth so that when you go up you can have a wonderful time of celebration.. And you can buy oxen, and or sheep or wine or strong drink. Strong drink is what we see in Acts where on the day of shavout, remember this is one of those feasts in which they would come up, some men said, These men are full of new wine King James says, the Greek says sweet wine.

Sweet wine is what we would call in our culture brandy. In the Hebrew culture it's called strong drink. And when they said these men are full of strong drink or brandy, "then Peter said , these men are not full of brandy, like you assume . It's only nine o'clock in the morning. "

So its a little bit funny that he would respond that way.

But you have to remember this is not, these are not Baptist Hebrews [audience laughs] Ok. You know if it was nine o'clock at night you may have a point. But its only nine o'clock in the morning. You know they're not full of strong drink but this is that which is spoken of by the prophet Yoel.

And so he says come up and use it for strong drink, whatever your soul desires.

And thou shalt eat there before Yahweh thy God, and thou shalt rejoice. Thou and thou household. And the Levite that is within thy gates thou shalt not forsake him. For he has not part or inheritance with thee. And at the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase that same year and shall lay it up within thy gates and the Levite because he has no inheritance and the stranger, the fatherless, the widows which are within thy gates, shall come and shall eat and be satisfied and Yahweh thy God may bless thee and all the work that thine hands did do.

That is how the tithe was set out originally. Every individual is responsible to give. Everyone like Judas could have been sent out to find some poor and to give some gifts to the poor. It's still done that way now. If you have been blessed when you go up to Jerusalem, you take money with you and you find someone who has need. You take care of the orphans. He then equates the giving that all Christians are involved in to be found in the example of the Crystal Cathedral. Regarding 'sweet wine' versus new wine. That actual Scripture reads:

Acts 2:13 "Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine." Strong's states: 1098. gleukov gleukos, glyoo'-kos akin to 1099; sweet wine, i.e. (properly) must (fresh juice), but used of the more saccharine (and therefore highly inebriating) fermented wine:--new wine.

Strong drink is craved by the flesh not the soul as Michael Rood teaches. The "celebration" for the Israelites to get whatever they wanted with the one particular tithe/feast was in sharp contrast to what we are called to in Christ with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Eph 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

1Th 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; 5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

Lu 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

From a discussion site in 2000, Michael Rood's 'priestly' exploits, including illegally trespassing in Israel and using the Torah as the excuse, are recounted. Also note his use of "execution stake."

"...Everything, that is, except the lamb. I stayed in the kitchen preparing the haroseth as Cohen returned to the market. Having secured a token piece of spring lamb, he sat down to rest for a few moments at the bench outside the seventh "Station of the Cross." This station happens to represent the place where Jesus fell under the burden of the execution stake. (Although this location is not significant in and of itself, and certainly is not what the Roman Church purports it to be, this is where Cohen sat down to rest.) ..."



"Under a nearly full moon, Cohen and I carried out the rehearsal of the Cohenim of three millennia ago - and for the first time in nearly 2000 years, it was being done at the right day and the right time. I asked Cohen, "Has the sun set?" to which he replied, "Ken -- yes." I asked, "Will you harvest the barley?" he replied, "Ken -- yes." I asked, "With this knife?" he replied, "Ken -- yes, with this knife," and we then reaped the barley in their standing shocks and put them into the wicker basket. We blew the shofar on the mountain. We recited Deuteronomy 26 as was the Mitzvah, and we prayed for a ride back to the Jaffa Gate as it was now 1:00 a.m"



"...We scaled a particularly treacherous fence and made it through the archaeological maze that leads to the 3 ancient portals. As we approached the wall we saw two Israeli police stalking us.

It was hours before the gates would be opened to this site for paying tourists. We had obviously entered "illegally." I told Cohen, "I will do the talking. We are not tourists. We are fulfilling the commandment concerning the offering of the Bikkurim and the Torah is our authority to be here at this very hour -- continue!"



" ...If the 7th millennium began on April 6th 2000 when the first sliver of the new moon was sighted, then the big war will begin September 29, 2000. If May 5th began the 7th millennium, the invasion will be one month later, at sundown on October 28th 2000. Either way, there will be millions of dead bodies to clean up before Passover 6002 (2001). With a seven-month cleanup just ahead of us,..."

For those unfamiliar, the term Cohenim is in reference to the Jewish Priests aka Levites, and what Michael Rood was saying was that he (a Gentile) and Joshua Cohen (an actual Levite if his heritage is correct) were the only 'Levite priests' who had gotten the ritual correct in 2000 years. According to the Scriptures and the commandments of God, a Gentile could not be a Levite Priest, yet in this dialogue, Michael Rood appears to have taken the leadership, as is often recorded in his letters.



Is trespassing and acknowledging doing things illegally part of the Levite Priesthood rituals or part of being Torah Observant? We believe God expects exemplary behavior from all who claim to live for Him. Leadership are in fact called to, "Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work." Titus 3:1



According to the Scriptures, which Michael Rood claims he observes, aside from not being of the Levitical heritage, Michael Rood would be much too old to serve as a priest, even if he was Jewish, a Levite and not a Gentile. Found in the Torah:

Numbers 4:23 From thirty years old and upward until fifty years old shalt thou number them; all that enter in to perform the service, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation... 8:25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more: 8:26 But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.

Since Michael Rood is in his mid 50's, if he were a Levite priest like he has claimed and pretended to be, he's not to teach, but rather is supposed to sit down and be quiet and worship with the rest of the people. That is aside from the fact that those who belong to Jesus Christ have become the 'royal priesthood' and are a nation of priests and kings, and Jesus Christ is our High Priest.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.



Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.



Hebrew 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

As stated, Michael Rood as a Gentile, cannot be a Messianic Jew unless he has converted to Judaism in some form, which would mean rejection of Jesus Christ as the Messiah and the New Testament.



Michael Rood entered the doomsday cult The Way International (TWI) at the age of 17, (according to Judith Rood at the 2005 NRB convention), where he became leadership, and in 1995, while launching this new venture, continues to work with his Way International friends, including for example, Jamie Louis, Robert Wadsworth, and many others. His TWI leadership information is proven by a newspaper interview Michael Rood did when he was 29 years old in 1981. Except, that information states Michael Rood entered TWI when he was 20 not 17 as Judith Rood stated. And he was still involved in TWI Bible studies in 1994/95 according to TWI members or former members. He launched this current scheme in 1995/1996. Citing from Michael John Rood: WAY Days:

By 1981, 29 year old Michael John Rood of "A Rood Awakening" had been in The Way International cult for nine years. 1 Today, at age 51 his current presentation of religious beliefs seem to be a reflection of The Way International theology and indoctrination practices plus. It would not be a surprise that he does employ that form of teaching because Michael Rood was in leadership as, at the very least, Limb Coordinator of The Way cult in Washington D.C. 2

Having joined The Way International in 1972 at the age of 20 and claiming to be a former Marine marksman in 1981, Michael Rood was introduced to a Way Twig meeting as "The Rev. Mr. Michael Rood," according to the October 13, 1981, Washington Post article called, Giving Thanks for Array of Blessings, ..."

The fact that Michael Rood is a Gentile who claims to be Jewish is all the more interesting when one reviews the books he would have studied while in The Way International, which was also a para military movement whose actions included the stockpiling of weapons, in anticipation of Armageddon. Their projected dates for that event was also a dismal failure. TWI promoted the book, "The Myth of the Six Million", which teaches 6 million Jews were not killed by Germans. More TWI literature spoke of the Nazi Holocaust as a hoax perpetrated by Jews and Communists.

Michael Rood has never publicly renounced his TWI membership or beliefs and at the 2005 National Religious Broadcasters Convention, Judith, his wife, stated he was only in TWI when he was 17. That of course is blatantly false.

However, we see in his Mystery of Iniquity, statements which promote Lost Tribes theology, British Israelism (Ephraim and Manasseh) and other statements which teachings suggest that Gentiles, such as himself, can lay claim to actually being Jewish, thereby replacing the physical Jews. His condescending statement while doing an interview in Jerusalem, asking Jews on the street in Jerusalem what the name Jesus meant in Hebrew, and of course, when getting 'nothing' for a response, stated, "Out of the mouth of babes." He has also stated that it was the Jewish Levite priesthood who are responsible for creating nuclear warheads, with of course, no documentation:

"...Jewish scientists created each of the three varieties of nuclear warheads on the planet. In fact, it was the lineage of Levi that developed this modern ‘fire offering’ technology. As I say, “If you don’t have the Levites up on the Temple mount doing sacrifices, they get into all sorts of weird stuff.” They are going to do a fire offering - one way or another. As the Scriptures say in Genesis 49:5 Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations" [www.michaelrood.com/news_sp27.htm 8/24/02: Zechariah’s Thermonuclear War]

Except later, after Genesis 49, God called and anointed the Levites for the priesthood until such time as the prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah, and his being the final sacrifice were fulfilled. They, just as all mankind, are called to repentance and obedience to Christ and the Word of God. They are not called to continue in the Temple giving sacrifices. Michael Rood also makes distinction constantly that the 'western Gentile' Christian are all pagans, but never speaks of Jewish believers as being part of Christianity, deceived or 'pagan' in those sweeping statements.

In the 1999 tape series, The 70th Week Ministry of the Messiah, Tape 3 of 4, Michael Rood again makes a distinction between Jews and Gentiles, persecution and their ability to stand for Christ.

"Nicodemus was still covert at this time. And I don't want to hear anyone say anything bad about Nicodemus or the Jews who are being covert in Jerusalem today, because their lives depend on it. Not that they deny but there are times to be quiet and to wait until the Messiah opens the door and then speak. And until you've had your head cut off you don't have any room to speak about anyone else. And then it won't do you any good anyway."

How presumptuous to state what he does and does not want to hear, as if he deserves to have obedience from people or is some authority that should be listened to. The Scriptures do not say Nicodemus was "still covert". He went at night to ask Jesus questions so that he could gain understanding, one on one, and likely not wanting to deal with a huge crowd. He stated to Christ, "...Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him....[John 3:2]" After that it is recorded once that he spoke publicly, and then Nicodemus is known because he went with Joseph of Arimathaea, who had secretly obtained the body of Jesus from Pilate, and Nicodemus "brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. 40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury..." John 19:38-42

The subtle implication being made by Michael Rood is that people, specifically Gentiles, have or would think ill of Nicodemus and Jews. And the resulting implication of his statements is that all Jews in Jerusalem--nowhere else and definitely not Gentiles--are in fact hiding that they belong to Christ. And their reasons for 'hiding' and being 'covert' are sound due to certain death by having their heads cut off if it's known they serve Christ and no 'Gentile' has the right to suggest otherwise.

Are Jews currently being put to death in any way for declaring Christ in Jerusalem? Are Gentiles being put to death currently for declaring Christ in Jerusalem? I have heard of no such reports, and in fact have corresponded with Jewish Christians in Israel. God does have the right to speak as to how we are to behave and stand for Him, and it is not predicated on our race, background or location. It is fully about obedience to Him and the Word of God, and the prompting of the Holy Spirit to speak for Christ.

Matthew 10:31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Hebrews 13:6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Matthew 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

It should be noted that Michael Rood has used his Marine background quite often, couching his teachings with military phrases and elaborating on supposed exploits including a fleet being pulled over, so to speak, due to his preaching skills.

From Michael John Rood: Marine Chaplain, Jewish Gentile Rabbi, & Reverend?:

In a February 1996 promotional pamphlet, Rood relates a story which can only be called "Unbelievable!"

"The Captain of the ship radioed to the Flagship Admiral, "I need a Chaplain over here ASAP. We've got some kind of 'revival' going on over here with the Marines - The whole damn Battalion is sitting on the deck right now with some NCO teaching them about the return of Christ." Within the hour a chopper landed on the fantail. Two days later on a small island, the largest number of Marines since WWII were baptized in the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean.

These Marines were not won by a limp-wristed handling of the Scriptures, but by the intensity of a young Combat Infantry Marine who understood the events that WILL come to pass according to the Hebrew Prophets, and the world powers and players who are invariably marching us headlong into an atheistic world government - The New World Order. Twentyfive years later, it is in the open, beating on our door.

Sergeant Michael Rood went on to serve with the Navy Chaplain Corps as the only full time teacher and ministry trainer in the history of the U.S. Marines. His job...teach the Bible, and many he taught are now pastors, missionaries, and teachers all over the globe..."

We are called to "Prove all things." [1Thes 5:21] The questionable numbers of the "many he taught are now pastors, missionaries, and teachers all over the globe" were of course being proselytized by Michael Rood into The Way International doctrine, which they in turn would have disseminated, if this incident happened at all, and which the Marines, including the Navy Chaplains Corp and school, have declined to confirm or negate.

Where is the record of the name of the "small island" where this alleged incident took place and the date for when it allegedly happened? And the source of the statistics for the "largest number of Marines baptized since WWII" came from where? And the names of the ship, captain, Flagship Admiral, Chaplain, and names of those who were witnesses to these unique and historical events are where? And why isn't Michael John Rood listed in any historical record, including the Navy Chaplains School, as serving, "the Navy Chaplain Corps as the only full time teacher and ministry trainer in the history of the U.S. Marines". This writer asked the Marines and the Chaplains Corp and their training school contact and searched all available websites and archives, and while officers and chaplains who made historical significance or contributions were mentioned on the various websites, one Michael John Rood, was not. It's been said that facts that cannot be proven are not facts.

It was after his discharge from the Marines in 1976 that he entered The Way International's school. Michael Rood got his Biblical understanding and most of his beliefs, including rejection of the deity of Jesus Christ from the founder of that cult, Victor Paul Wierwille. One can parallel many of The Way International teachings to Michael Rood's teachings. His entire mission appears to be to deny the inspiration of the Greek texts and change the Word of God, the same as The Way International, make himself the only bearer of real truth, the same as his mentor Victor Paul Wierwille, and have people tithe him money to support his schemes. Recently, again regaling his trespassing ability for his own purposes, Michael Rood wrote in his The Pagan Christian Connection Exposed:

"...The site I had come to inspect was flanked on the highway by red military signs stenciled with “DANGER MINEFIELD” and skull and crossbones. My experience as a United States Marine, guarding the Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, suggested that the site I was preparing to inspect was on the border of a defensive minefield. Uncertain about the levels of security and surveillance I might encounter by trespassing into this area, I carefully noted the frequency of the motorized military patrols in the distance. I would not be deterred from the goal that had taken me halfway around the Earth: the search for the ashen remains of the city of Gomorrah in the Dead Sea Valley plain..." (page 5)

It is interesting to note that in his current presentations, Michael Rood is now using the more Christian friendly term “cross”, while in most of his teachings until recently, he stated that “YAHshua” or "Y'shua" died on an execution stake, as also noted above. In fact, in Michael Rood's promotions for his 2002, 2003 and 2004 Israel Tours and listed for the third day of the itinerary, is this statement: "8. Damascus Gate Lecture on the steps - the gate through which Y'shua carried his execution stake." [www.yaakovlevi.com/tours.htm]



In the 1999 tape series, The 70th Week Ministry of the Messiah, Tape 3 of 4 he said, "...So you want to follow the Messiah take up your execution stake and follow me he said." and in Tape 1 of that series, "You want to follow me, take up your execution stake..."



This belief about the execution stake versus the cross, was taught by his former group “The Way International”, and is also taught by the Jehovah's Witnesses.


Michael Rood wrote in The Pagan Christian Connection Exposed:

"...Few of the pagan practices of the month of Tammuz remain in modern Judaism, but Constantine adapted most of the abominations surrounding the worship of the sun god into what is now modern Christianity. Even the sign of Mithra—the Babylonian Tau [or cross of Tammuz] – decorated the banners of the Roman legions a hundred years before the birth of Y'shua. Jews were crucified by the thousands on the cross of Mithra in the city streets of Jerusalem. They were crucified as a sacrifice to the Roman sun god. This is the emblem that Constantine chose to designate his new religion, the same emblem that decorated Roman battle banners for four centuries of conquests."(page 117)

Also in “The Pagan Christian Connection Exposed", on page 39, Michael Rood references the Epistle of Barnabas in his chapter “Learning to Tell Time Biblically.” While this writer does not endorse the Epistle of Barnabas, since Michael Rood sourced it, it is noteworthy that in Chapter nine verse seven or eight (depending on translation) it states that Jesus was crucified on a Tau shaped cross. Yet Michael Rood vacillates from the word 'cross', and pushes the term, execution stake.



If one were to disregard the plethora of historical information that verifies execution on a cross, there are two scriptural passage that create a problem for those who teach that Jesus died on a “stake”:

Matthew 27: 37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

Notice that it does not say that the sign was over his “hands”, as it would be if He were executed on a stake, because in stake execution, the condemned had their hands nailed up over their head with a single nail.



Jesus also prophesied how Peter would die with stretched out hands, suggesting a cross, not an execution stake:

John 21:18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

With all the documented false prophecies, the admitted "illegal" activities, the changing of the Word of God, the unproven "facts", the altering of information, is this the "Torah Observant" example that is preferred by some over the "lawless" or 'antinomian' Christians? Those who say "Yes!" obviously do not know what the Word of God states concerning the Levites, false prophets, the laws and government. Nor do they understand that a true Christian, one who loves and serves Jesus Christ does not deliberately break the law of the land, nor defy the Word of God.

1 Peter 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:



2 Peter 2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.



1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

While we might disagree with various policies or actions of our respective governments, we are called to obey the laws of the land the best of our ability. We are to stand fast if we are ever challenged, by anyone, to deny our Lord Jesus Christ and our personal obedience to the Word of God.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake...7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

2 Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
