In Next, Nicolas Cage plays Chris Johnson, a man with the ability to see into the future. But it's not everyone's future. It's just his own. And it's not the ENTIRE future, it's just the next two minutes. He has managed to turn this unique and more-frustrating-than-it-is-useful power into a small-time career as a magician/gambler in Las Vegas. He keeps his tricks two-bit and his gambling wins small so as not to attract attention. Inevitably, however, he is compelled to stop a would-be robber from killing some people and the security tape captures the attention of a hardened, clean-faced FBI agent (Academy Award winner for no apparent reason, Juliane Moore) who is trying to stop some French/Russian terrorists from setting off a nuclear bomb in downtown Los Angeles for no reason.

If you think this plot sounds mighty silly, you're correct. So why should you see this movie? Because Nicolas Cage is, himself a magician with the power to turn even the crappiest script into high comedy. Consider, if you will, the following scene:

Cage's barely legal love interest, Jessica Beil, asks him how he chose his stage name, Frank Cadillac. He replies, "I took two things I like and put them together: Frankenstein and Cadillacs."

Now, this line MUST have been ad-libbed by Cage because it a) makes no sense and b) is nothing like the rest of the film's dialog. If you think this is hilarious, you should definitely go see Next. If now find yourself confused and perhaps a bit frightened, you should go see Spiderman 3 instead.
