chipguy, you can't tell me that spinning a second processor, (even if it is just dropping cache) isn't something that needs to be staffed as a project and take a certain amount of time and resources - layout, prototypes, engineering runs.

AMD (as you may have noticed) has not had the advantage of excess funds to do too many parallel efforts. So they pick their battles wisely, making sure the design works in various applications with the introductory cache size.

Had anything gone wrong with the introduction then the second design may need to be worked before released, making H1/04 a vague enough commitment.

Things went well with the larger die, so bringing in new variants is a vote of confidence.
