Lithium Technology Corp. Chairman Harry H. Van Andel has died, the company announced Tuesday.

Van Andel, 63, died April 18. A cause of death was not given. He had been chairman at Lithium (OTCBB:LTHU), a maker of rechargeable lithium-ion cells and batteries, since 2005, the company said.

Van Andel was chief executive at Arch Hill Capital and the Lithium Technology subsidiary GAIA Holding, and on the board at Lithium's German subsidiary, GAIA Akkumulatorenwerke GmbH.

"The board of directors and employees of LTC are mourning the loss of Harry Van Andel who led the company through a critical stage in our development," said Amir Elbaz, CFO and executive vice president at Lithium and managing director of GAIA. "We are very grateful for the dedication and leadership Harry provided. His tremendous passion, integrity and wisdom will be greatly missed, and his legacy will continue to guide us as a beacon. Our hearts and prayers are with the Van Andel family."

Lithium Technology is based in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
