The proof is easy and has been available for a long time.

For a time, AMD was reporting that Dresden was running at 5000 wspw and it was reporting its unit sales at about 7 M per quarter. With this information you can calculate good die per wafer. Formulas are available to calculate the number of die sites on a wafer. From there it was a simple division to calulate yields.

The yield number for the calculation was in the 35% to 40% range if you assumed that AMD was fudging its wafer start numbers and operating at less than 5000 wspw. These yields are based on information reported by AMD and they are about half of the calculated world class yields for die of that size.

AMD became aware of the fact that it was indirectly reporting its yields and no longer reports wafer starts or processor unit sales. But the numbers have not changed significantly.

If you want to find the discussions of the detailed calculations use the search feature on SI.
