Re: No, it rather fell from 12.1 to 10.8%, compared to last years Q3

Things at SUN have been improving steadily. SUN (being the best mid range server at the time) was the choice of most of the bubble companies at the 1999 peak, and they had a lot of inventory in the field that had to be worked through. But that appears to finally be happening.

Sun's Low-Cost Strategy Bears Fruit as Company Outpaces Competitors in Volume Servers
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. today's announced that the company grew factory revenue twice as fast as any of its major competitors in the worldwide volume servers (servers priced less than $25,000) sequentially quarter-to-quarter, according to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker(1), which was released today. Sun had double-digit growth in unit shipments, both on a quarter-to-quarter sequential basis, and on a year-over-year basis, in three key categories of the volume server segment: all operating systems, UNIX and UNIX+Linux.

"Today numbers are evidence that Sun is delivering extreme performance at compelling prices, beating our rivals in a key segment and applying pressure on them to cut costs," said Larry Singer, Sun's senior vice president, global market strategies. "We intend to continue this trend as we start delivering low-cost products based on our new alliance with AMD. And stayed tuned for next week's Sun Network, where we'll make a series of announcements that will further improve our competitive edge."

Additional Sun highlights include:

-- In the dual-processor rack-optimized server market, Sun grew its unit shipment market-share faster than any other major vendor, on a quarter-to- quarter basis. This shows the phenomenal market acceptance of our x86 Sun Fire(TM) V60/V65x servers and our Solaris(TM) Sun Fire V210/V240 servers.

-- In the four-processor rack-optimized server market, Sun grew more its unit market-share and its factory revenue market-share faster year-over-year than any other major vendor. This shows the momentum of our popular Sun Fire V480 server and we expect this trend to continue with our newly introduced Sun Fire V440 server.
