ohgeez,
IMO, you have a great idea as there are many free avenues that might bring greater attention to ATWEC. I thought I would add my 2 cents about some ideas;

Overall, when people (my wife and I found it interesting anyway) look at the whole picture of ATWEC, its history and the positive effect ATWEC and its products may potentially have on public safety, this subject might generate an increase in public interest regarding ATWEC if an article were printed.
A few subjects directly related to public interest are child safety, the entrepreneurial spirit, savings to tax payers in the form of insurance discounts to school bus operators who install ATWEC systems and sign with "NSI of West Bend Insurance."
Also, ATWEC as one of the "first publicly traded, minority owned companies," could really add to the public debate about “affirmative action.”
I am not even sure if ATWEC has taken advantage of the minority owned business tax incentives but if they did or didn’t plays into one side or the other in the ongoing public debate over “affirmative action.” For instance, ATWEC’s participation in the program (I think tax breaks are the form the incentives come in) could be an argument for the program just as ATWEC’s not taking advantage of the program could be an argument against the need for incentives. Either way, through an article in a widely read magazine, ATWEC might enjoy a higher level of public awareness and hopefully public support.
IMO, there are enough different angles of human interest contained in the story which would appeal to a broad audience and thus interest magazines like the following.

(I got the idea from reading in one of the past and recent month’s issues of “Readers Digest,” a story about ETIM. IMO, this may have something to do with ETIM’s recent run, JMO.)

As people can see from my past posts, I really don’t write well. That is the understatement of the year!! LOL. In fact, I have to use a voice recognition program to write and even with this, my wife has to check the mistakes as the system is far from perfect.
Anyway, I sent a "proposal” for a story on Alex Wiley, his efforts and the "children left behind" problem to "Readers Digest" using what little I could find on the web. I sent the story to RD but due to my writing shortcomings, I doubt my “proposal” will meet Readers Digest’s requirements. However, I have seen some really good pieces written here and I hope this post will inspire one of the more talented and literary capable people to send in their own version. Who knows, we might get lucky. It worked for ETIM!

Also, due to the strong "faith" of Mr. Wiley and some important people on the Board of directors at ATWEC, I felt there might be some interest from a magazine called "Guide Posts." I sent them basically the same proposal but in this case adding the "strong faith" angle. Guide Posts is a thin monthly magazine focusing on positive and inspiring stories about people overcoming obstacles by the inspiration their faith gives them. Even if you don’t believe in the premise of the magazine, IMO, child safety touches us all and the more the public hears and becomes aware of the problem of children left on school busses, the chance of a resolution to the problem increases.

I also am working on informing my local school board about ATWEC products. I don’t know about other people’s local tax situations but where I live, this is a very volatile subject. Especially this year as the school board is seeking an increase in local school taxes. I think it is a good idea to “strike while the iron is hot” and with all the uproar over local taxes, I hope the board will look into ATWEC and West Bend (NSI) as this may reduce the overall tax increase necessary. I am also thinking about a letter to the editor of our local papers to let them know that there are opportunities available to reduce school related costs and if nothing else, before taxes are raised, every costs saving opportunity should be explored before raising taxes. Savings are savings right? This may be the subject which the majority of people can relate to as it affects them directly. Even if they don't have children, everyone pays taxes!

These are just some ideas and I post them some of the more talented and capable people who read these boards might pick up the ball and run with it by writing a story worth printing. That is why I included the links. This is just my 2 cents but what can it hurt?
JMO,
Nez
