l_banker, your link uses old data to prove its point, but even if you did compare today's Irix workstations, you'd find them languidly obsolete for today's requirements in the field of graphics rendering. The reason why Linux workstations have surpassed SGI's own boxes is because x86 can run circles around MIPS. Now, if SGI had Itanium 2 workstations, the tables may turn; and the same goes for any other vendor.

Either way, SGI has IP that is useful for proliferating IPF. If SGI cannot support their entire business financially, I can at least see someone picking up the Altix line, since it seems to be selling better than any other system in its class.
