it seems that everyone here is so confused on what the bid and the ask are. Your statement made no sense. A potential buyer of bany shares cannot buy at the Bid. They can only buy at the ask. The ask is the lowest the dealer is willing to sell the stock for. The buyer is not puting in a bid to buy the stock, they are meeting the ask price of the dealer. The bid is how much a seller of the stock will get when they sell it to the dealer. The owner of bany shares cannot sell at the ask, you sell at the bid price.
