Success, I've thought about the Univ. of Helsinki's Visual Codes project created by university students Beat Gfeller and Michael Rohs for the past month. Apparently, ScanBuy has licensed this OS application from them and rebranded it EZ-Code, as indicated by Michael Rohs response as follows:

"The Visual Code System was developed as part of my dissertation at ETH Zurich. Scanbuy and ETH Zurich have arranged an exclusive license agreement for commercial use. The version on the Web is an old initial version of the system. Best regards, Michael"

The real question now is how does the University of Helsinki's licensing agreement play into NeoMedia's international patent protection footprint. I think it safe to say that both ScanBuy and NextCode have advanced their launched by remaining in areas outside NeoMedia's international patent jurisdictions, e.g. ScanBuy in China and NextCode in the Philipines. The bigger question here is how specifically does NeoMedia's patents interface with the Univ. of Helsinki's licensing agreements? Obviously, BP&G would have come across the same information long ago by performing in-depth anaylsis of ScanBuy and their operating agreements and are hopefully very much aware of this matter...

All the Best, JP
