Here we go again ...

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton threw red meat to the party faithful Tuesday, reviving claims of a “vast, right-wing conspiracy” first raised during her husband's presidency.

Speaking to an audience of Democratic municipal officials, Clinton cited as proof the Election Day 2002 case of phone jamming in New Hampshire, a case in which two Republicans pleaded guilty to criminal charges, with a third convicted.

According to an Associated Press report, Clinton made her charge of conspiracy in response to a question about her effort to make Election Day a federal holiday, and “make it a crime to send misleading or fraudulent information to voters.”

What Clinton failed to mention was that dirty tricks owe their allegiance to neither party. Registered voters whose names appear on cemetery headstones, push polling, fiddling with voting machines, stealing campaign materials, and buying votes with jobs or cash are nothing new.

This is not to say that politics should continue to be played in the gutter, but recent allegations about leaks to the media involving the Clinton and Obama camps seem to belie any claim Hillary Clinton could make to taking the high road.
