Think about the delay of the times when orders are initiated in those time zones. As you roll across the country you actually even out the distribution of calls throughout the day.
Therefore, even growth in all timezones is more conducive to economical growth of the call center. If they expanded in the east only first you have a higher peak period to staff and deeper off-peak time periods. This is actually more difficult to staff economically.
Some things you may see in the future is redundant Call Centers and dynamic routing to those centers. You may also see leveraging of VOIP or some future incarnation of it to decrease the overhead of 800 service cost in peak areas. The whole realm of telephony and distributed networking and distributed data and applications is simply amazing. I have been in that space for many years. Evolution within the infrastructure is nothing short of magic.
The whole concept of the central call center for this is perfect on many fronts. Local shop personnel overhead reduction, better expertise on what is offered, etc. There WILL be issues. They will then evaluate and fix those issues as required.
