Hedge fund activity in biotech was not nearly as widespread back in 2004 as it is now. Same thing with the "market neutral" hedge funds. There are so many more of them now, probably by a factor of 2 to 4, than there were then. They all have the same playbook. Go long big biotech, go short development-stage biotech.
