I could not resist the 'nam again part.

The US has a long history of defeating insurgencies "well enough" for the political purpose of the time. You can look it up.

South Vietnam fell to an invasion of North Vietnamese regular troops after the US abandoned it.

And, as for the 10 years part, the Phillipines has had insurgents for at least 100 years.

I'm just sayin' - it's never 'the same'.
