Saunders expands defense & fuel infrastructure work

Saunders International Ltd Managing Director and CEO Mark Benson talked with Proactive at the AIM's Small and Midcap Conference about the company’s strong momentum, recent project wins and the strategic expansion into defense and infrastructure sectors. Benson highlighted Saunders’ transformation from a tank constructor to a multi-disciplined, end-to-end engineering and construction provider. “We’ve diversified and become a multi-disciplined business… Now some of the projects we can do end-to-end,” he said, referencing the company’s work on the **Western Sydney Airport**, where it completed all elements from fuel tank construction to apron pipeline delivery. He also noted Saunders’ acquisition strategy as a driver of growth, enabling delivery of complex infrastructure through internal capabilities. Notable acquisitions include piping, civil infrastructure, and automation companies, helping the company expand its offering and grow organically and through M&A. Benson discussed the company’s extensive work in the defense sector, including the **Larrakeyah Defense Precinct** in Darwin, where Saunders handled the complete marine diesel infrastructure — from delivery to ship fueling — a capability he said sets the company apart. “Typically it’s done through 3 to 6 contractors. Now we can do that end to end.” The company now sees a $2.3 billion pipeline of directly addressable opportunities, with up to $4.8 billion in total defense-related fuel infrastructure upgrades anticipated across the next decade. Saunders is actively tendering for $580 million of that. Benson said Saunders’ unique value in defense projects includes not just technical delivery but risk reduction for government clients. “In defense, it’s not all about price. Sometimes price evaluation is only 30%. Wrkr CEO on super compliance growth strategy

Wrkr Limited CEO Trent Lund talked with Proactive at the AIM's Small and Midcap Conference about the company’s strategy to simplify compliance through a deeply integrated digital platform. The ASX-listed company, trading under the ticker WRK, connects users, employers, and superannuation funds to streamline data accuracy and reduce friction in onboarding processes. “We do all the hard work and the heavy lifting so the business and the employee don’t have to,” said Lund. He explained that Wrkr verifies user credentials and automates data flows, reducing error and increasing trust. The system connects to major superannuation funds and payroll systems, holding accurate user information even during job transitions. Lund detailed Wrkr’s monetisation model, which aims to earn approximately $7 per user through microservices, including license checks and transactions. Current pilots, including one with major fund REST, are transitioning to production. Each super fund implementation takes about nine months and represents between $7 million and $14 million in annual annuity revenue once fully operational. Looking ahead, 2025 will be focused on large-scale implementation, with 2026 anticipated to generate higher consumption-based revenues. Cordiant Digital Infrastructure Management chair on capital strategy & growth focus

Cordiant Digital Infrastructure Ltd (LSE:CORD) Chairman Steven Marshall talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company’s capital allocation strategy and growth outlook, particularly in the context of rising interest rates and macroeconomic pressures. Marshall highlighted how Cordiant Digital has strategically invested in cash-generative assets within two of Europe’s fastest-growing economies—Poland and the Czech Republic. “We can actually buy small bolt-on businesses, we can invest in organic growth, which actually is at a much lower cost than actually the buyback rates that we're getting,” Marshall said. The company has balanced yield and reinvestment, maintaining a dividend yield just under 5%, which is currently covered 1.8 times by free cash flow. Marshall explained the business has focused on acquiring quality mid-market assets with strong management teams and brand value. Looking ahead, Cordiant Digital aims to continue growing its portfolio through bolt-on acquisitions and organic investments, such as expanding distributed antenna broadband networks in Prague and Warsaw, and further developing data centre and mobile tower infrastructure in Poland. Atrato Partners on Social Housing REIT (SOHO): strategy, debt and dividend outlook

Atrato Partners, the newly appointed Investment Manager of Social Housing REIT (SOHO) talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the current state of the specialised supported housing sector and how the company is tackling key challenges within its portfolio. Fund manager Adrian D'Enrico was joined by Michael Carey and Natalie Markham, offering a comprehensive update on SOHO’s operational and financial performance. D'Enrico addressed common misconceptions about the sector, clarifying that it is not temporary or homeless accommodation, but instead provides long-term homes for adults with care needs. “A misconception as well is that specialised supported housing is a passive investment based on the long lease,” he explained, underlining the importance of resident occupancy and the operational real estate nature of the assets.
