Quantum Base to list on AIM with £5M IPO plan

Quantum Base CEO Tom Taylor joined Stephen Gunnion in the Proactive studio with more about the company’s upcoming listing on the AIM market and its breakthrough anti-counterfeiting technology. Quantum Base, founded in 2013 as a spin-out from Lancaster University, has developed an atomic fingerprint that offers 100% secure authentication of goods, scannable with any smartphone. “It tells you 100% if something is real or it's fake,” Taylor said, describing the technology as a major leap in the fight against counterfeiting. Taylor explained that the technology has applications across sectors including brand protection, pharmaceuticals, tax stamps, banknotes, passports and even aerospace parts. The firm is already working with clients globally—from North America to the Middle East—and targeting both commercial brands and government organisations. The IPO is expected to raise £5 million, with £4.70 million already committed and trading set to begin on Friday under the ticker QUBE. The retail offer remains open. “We really want to grow… AIM really helps us grow,” Taylor said, noting the listing will support product development and expansion into new verticals. Key uses of the funds will include expanding Quantum Base’s commercial team and scaling its product reach into global markets. Buru Energy secures strategic deal for LNG development

Buru Energy Ltd CEO Thomas Nador talked with Proactive about the company’s newly announced strategic development agreement with Clean Energy Fuels Australia Pty Ltd (CEFA) to co-develop the Rafael Gas Project. Nador explained that CEFA brings strong midstream and downstream capabilities, backed by I Squared Capital, which manages around $40 billion in assets. "They bring the right credentials, to look after the downstream and midstream elements of the project," he said. Buru, meanwhile, will focus on the upstream side of the Rafael development. The deal is described as a “watershed moment” for the company, as it provides a clear pathway toward developing a long-term gas and condensate business in northwest Western Australia—an area currently dependent on imported energy. Under the agreement, CEFA will fund, build, and operate a small-scale LNG facility on-site, with Buru paying a processing fee over the life of the project. This significantly reduces Buru’s capital exposure to only the upstream infrastructure—namely, two wells, one of which is already in place. A final investment decision is expected in late 2025 or early 2026, with first cash flows anticipated in the second half of 2027. According to Nador, the projected annual free cash flow from the Rafael development is expected to surpass the company’s current market capitalization. Nexus Minerals expands Payns Find gold target

Nexus Minerals Ltd managing director Andy Tudor talked with Proactive about the latest exploration success at the Payns Find gold target, part of the company's Wallbrook Gold Project in Western Australia. Tudor described the program as “exciting” following a third air core drilling campaign that confirmed high-grade intercepts and significantly expanded the mineralised footprint. He said, “All of the attributes for a big system are here,” highlighting consistent grades of up to 5.99g/t at the extremities of a 900m by 750m target zone. The air core results revealed both supergene and fresh rock mineralisation, with around 30% of the 163 holes showing elevated geochemistry in the final metre — a strong indicator of a large underlying system. “It’s that grade in the supergene and in the fresh rock that’s got us excited,” Tudor said. He also pointed to the presence of a full suite of alteration minerals — cerussite, rutile, tourmaline, and albite — typically associated with major gold systems in the region. With the air core phase now complete, Nexus is turning to reverse circulation (RC) drill planning. Tudor confirmed that air core drilling would continue regionally, while the company prepares for a comprehensive RC program at Payns Find to test depth extensions down to 120–150m. Caledonia Mining sees big profit jump in 2024; welcomes gold's move above $3,000

Caledonia Mining Corporation PLC (AIM:CMCL, NYSE-A:CMCL) chief executive Mark Learmonth talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company’s strong 2024 financial performance and strategic priorities following the release of its latest results. Learmonth reported a “strong end to a reasonably good year,” with annual gold production reaching approximately 78,000 ounces—within guidance—supported by favourable pricing. He highlighted that “gross profit for the year was 77 million, compared to 41 million last year,” with adjusted earnings per share rising sharply from less than $0.10 in 2023 to nearly $1.30 in 2024. The results were delayed due to a technical accounting issue, with Learmonth explaining this stemmed from a deferred tax calculation error dating back to 2019. He stressed it had “no impact on our actual tax liabilities and tax payments.” On project development, the feasibility study for the Bilboes project has been extended to evaluate options that could significantly reduce capital costs. These include the potential to export concentrate and relocate the tailings facility, potentially lowering upfront investment needs. Exploration at both Blanket and Motapa returned positive results. Learmonth noted that the Blanket resource base has been extended, and early work at Motapa uncovered “exciting mineralisation” in new areas. With gold prices currently above $3,000 per ounce, the company is focused on maximising cash flow and investing further in Blanket and other revenue-generating opportunities.
