Intel is responsive, when it needs to be. They did 180 on DDR, on response to the sub-$1000 PCs frist with Celeron, later with Timna, they did another 180 by canceling Timna, along with getting rid of Rambus support.

Itanium is much bigger blunder (as far as dollars down the drain) to reverse - well, blunder as far as how it would look to the outside world. Internally, people understand the risks and rewards of cornering the market, and Itanium was (and still is) a worthy endeavor, in this sense. As was Rambus.
