DD of XKEM.OB: A sickle cell drug, “NICOSAN” has been developed and manufactured in the country by Xechem Pharmaceuticals Nigeria Limited. WHO has officially recognized NICOSAN as the leading drug for the treatment of sickle cell. The Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Tuner Isoun, made these known at a news conference in Abuja. Isoun said that scientists at the National Institution of Pharmaceutical research discovered NICOSAN. On the efficacy of the drug, Xechem Chief Executive, Ramesh Pendey said that NICOSAN had undergone clinical tests both in Nigeria and the U.S. He also revealed that the company had received certification from NAFDAC and other regulatory bodies in Europe and the U.S. to administer, market and distribute the drug. He said that NICOSAN is the first drug to come out of Nigeria, providing solution to one of the world’s most deadly diseases. A member, House of Representatives from the U.S., Sharon Beasley-Teague, said that the discovery, development and manufacture of the drug had elevated the status of the country among the comity of nations. Sharon said that scientists in the country had availed the world of a solution to a problem that had given the world sleepless nights. Some of the sufferers, who are using the drug, testified that they had not experienced any crisis or side effect since they started taking NICOSAN.
