Regarding the jump in short positions - there is only one answer to that, imo and it points toward the convertible notes and a possible upcoming redemption settlement.

Can you forward the below link to the convertible notes agreement to djohnson and gary on st. They might be able to provide some valuable insights .

imo, short money usually doesn't lose, and the only logic to the new information regarding the short position points to the convertible notes.

Further possibility is it's the convertible note holders shorting, using the convertible notes as collateral for cover, and a possible buyer (DS for example ) on the other end on the buy side getting a huge position at a discount - does that make sense?
