I imagine it's a lot cheaper than a hyper car which consistently loses money.

How do you think Volkswagen funded Bugatti projects? Bugatti is actually a money loss project. How do you think Lambo became Lambo? Every company that started with a super/hyper car failed and transitioned to a "humble Toyota esque vehicle" before going back and making luxury vehicles.
