Nice to get more eyes on this. Textile Technology has been following closely...

The biotechnology company, Kraig Biocraft has announced it reached full capacity at its existing production location, signaling the next phase of its expansion plan. Progressing with its proposed investment in additional production facilities, the company plans to further boost its spider silk production capabilities.

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc., Ann Arbor, MI/USA, began planning for this factory expansion after observing the robust growth of its new spider silk hybrids in spring trials. The expansion project will roll out in 2 stages. Initially, the focus will be on addressing immediate capacity needs for the ensuing rainy seasons to ensure continued production. The subsequent larger project will cater to the company's long-term needs for hatchery space, with future production requirements in mind for the next 12-18 months.

Having secured permits for both projects, construction has begun with the first venture expected to conclude in the following weeks. The larger segment is planned to be completed by early fall 2024. The goal of these expansions is to meet the ambitious spider silk production targets set for 2024.

Kraig Biocraft expects to begin the third wave of recombinant spider silk production this month, focusing on scaling up the output of the parental lines for its production hybrids. The company has achieved a series of scientific breakthroughs in spider silk technology with implications for the global textile industry.
