When Will Hard Carbon Anode Materials "Break Out"?
June 28, 2024

The downturn in the traditional graphite anode market has drawn increasing attention to new anode materials. Compared to silicon-based anode materials, hard carbon anode materials have received relatively less attention. From once being the "favorite" in the industry to now being "ignored," what has happened to hard carbon anode materials?

The main reason lies in the significant drop in the price of lithium carbonate, which has fallen from a high of nearly 600,000 yuan per ton to about 100,000 yuan per ton currently. When lithium prices were high, battery cell costs reached 0.7 yuan/Wh, and sodium-ion batteries were relatively cost-effective. However, with the intense price competition in the lithium-ion battery cell market, the willingness to choose sodium-ion batteries with lower energy density has diminished, and the development momentum of hard carbon anode materials, as their key raw material, has also slowed down, delaying the advent of the era of industrialization.

IF THERE IS ONE THING I AM SURE ABOUT IS I AM USUALLY WRONG
