US regulators risk undermining the country’s generous green hydrogen subsidy programme with over-zealous regulations that will push up costs — and eat into the value of the $3/kg production tax credit (PTC), a senior executive from electrolyser maker and green hydrogen producer Plug Power has told a webinar hosted by Hydrogen Insight.

Speaking at the Hydrogen Insight Summit 2024 yesterday (Tuesday), Don Boyajian, director of government affairs and counsel at Plug Power, warned that the US government’s proposed “three pillars” of additionality and temporal and geographic correlation (see panel below) would push up costs by around $2/kg.
