Armies around the world currently rely on fossil fuels for wartime operations, both as a vehicle fuel and to run generators to produce electricity off the grid.

While replacing fossil fuels with greener alternatives is necessary to get the world on course to net zero emissions, the military cannot rely on access to an electricity grid to power battery-electric vehicles or run the computers and drones that a modern army requires.
